Designer Spotlight: Apparel from Fair Industry allows artisans in developing countries to share in the joy of creating!
It's great when you see how indie businesses are sharing their entrepreneurial spirit with others. And indie clothier & jeweler Fair Industry shows their compassion through the promotion and employment of artisans in Bangladesh & Kenya.
Designer Lauren Markley's desire to create a line of clothing that was both ethically sound and fashionably stylish was triggered when she was living in Japan.
By designing Fair Industry's line of clothing herself, such as this lovely Tweed Skirt, and then having the items made by Artisan Hut, a Bangladesh organization who employs workers facing unemployment due to the mechanization of the garment industry, Lauren's support ensures that fair wages and healthy working environments are enjoyed by the very people she is helping.
Fair Industry's jewelry line is produced in the Bombolulu workshops of Mombasa, Kenya, which were founded to create employment for people with physical disabilities.
With compassion and reason, Fair Industry is putting their fashionable mark on the world of fair trade, and allowing handweavers, spinners, embroiderers and jewelry makers in developing countries to share in the joy of creating.
